Media Law

We would be glad to assist you with issues such as what media companies need to bear in mind regarding reporting, what civil law and criminal law implications should be considered in relation to the protection of privacy, or the Federal Act on Unfair Competition.

We can also advise on matters relating to copyright protection of music, sounds, images, texts and other works. We can show media companies how to use these works in a legally compliant way in the various journalistic channels, including social media.

We are also your point of contact for other legal issues relating to the media, for example the regulation of electronic media or media-specific data privacy law.

We can help you with questions relating to fundamental rights, e.g. freedom of expression, freedom of information, freedom of the media and protection of sources. This includes the requirements under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). If you are looking to bring a case before the European Court of Human Rights, we can advise and support you

Journalism involves media ethics as well as the legal framework. We can help you understand the rights and obligations set out in the Code of Conduct for Journalists and support you in proceedings before the Press Council.

Broadcasting Law

We have extensive practical experience in Swiss and European broadcasting law. This particularly concerns the Federal Act on Radio and Television, licensing law and constitutional principles. If necessary, we can support you in dealings with the supervisory authorities or represent you in supervisory procedures.

If you are keen to find out more about the legal requirements of editorial programmes or advertising, we can help. You can also rely on us in proceedings brought before the Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television (ICA).

Communication Law

We can support and advise communication departments in companies and other managers of internal, external or commercial communication. Or perhaps you have legal questions regarding the handling of user comments on your website, or concerning advertising.

This may concern areas such as data protection, privacy, criminal law, copyright, trade mark law and advertising law including the principles of the Swiss Commission for Fairness in Commercial Communication (Lauterkeitskommission).
